Google’s ChromeOS Flex is available to everyone — all you have to do is download the OS to a USB drive, and then install it on your old laptop. It is certified to work on nearly 300 devices.

It's great for surfing the web. You can't run applications like Photoshop or Excel. But if your old laptop is already too slow for those applications, ChromeOS Flex could be a great way to refurbish that old laptop — and keep it out of a landfill as long as possible.
